Adrián S. Bará’s (b.1982) practice, at its core, explores the body and its relation to space and modern architecture, as well as its representation at the intersection between sculpture, installation and painting. The artist’s training as a filmmaker drives his narrative—pulling in from daily materials and positions to construct sculpted situations that are meant to be activated by viewers as they project their own accounts into the objects that invite them to do so. Bará’s artwork often functions as archival traces of events—as stories that are meant to be intervened, challenged, and transformed through acts of looking.
Bará holds a B.A. in Motion Picture Arts and Cinematography in Film and Video from Capilano University, North Vancouver, Canada. He has attended residencies internationally, including Casa Nano art residency, Fundación Casa Wabi (Tokyo), Lacasapark art residency, Gardiner (New York), Art residency CASA WABI (Oaxaca), PIVÔ (São Paulo), QueensSpace (New York), International Studio & Curatorial program ISCP (New York), Programa de Estímulos a Jóvenes Creadores, FONCA (Mexico), and Casa Vecina, Estudio Extendido, Centro Histórico Foundation (Mexico City).
His work has been exhibited at galleries and institutions such as Páramo, ArtCenter/South Florida, MAW, Site 57 gallery, Gallery Weekend Mexico City, Solivagant Contemporary Art Projects, National Academy of Design, Cody Gallery, The Bass Museum of Art, Johannes Vogt gallery, Y gallery, Peana Projects, Art Museum Raúl Anguiano (MURA), ARCO Madrid, Museo de Arte de Zapopan (MAZ), FIFI projects gallery, Careyes art gallery, and Casey Kaplan Gallery.
