Kikuo Saito, Red Talia, 2006, Oil on Canvas, 68 x 91 in
The color Red is a color that leaves a strong, unforgettable impression. Throughout his career, Kikuo Saito experimented with the resonance of color, and the shade of Red Talia remains a singularly vivid expression of RED.
Named after one of the artist’s cousins, Talia, Saito was fond of her cheerful personality and her clear, confident presence. While it is unknown if the artist explicitly intended to translate her spirit onto the canvas, the painting’s radiant energy inevitably evokes her memory. It serves as a testament to Saito’s belief that color can sometimes communicate atmosphere and emotion more eloquently than language.
In tribute to the American visual artist Alison Knowles, who passed away in late 2025, we are honored to present this red and grid composition alongside Knowles' iconic Celebration Red.
*Visitors are encouraged to engage with the art by bringing a red, hand-held object from their own environment to place in the grid.
