SPRING OPENING RECEPTION

Emily Manzo: Time in Water

7 Mar. 2026 | 4:30pm

Time in Water is Emily Manzo’s solo piano performance shaped by long-term collaboration and careful listening. Written by MacArthur Fellow guitarist Mary Halvorson and composer/percussionist Aaron Siegel, the music unfolds over six pieces, giving space to resonance, breath, and the sensation of time stretching and pooling.

The concert is closely connected to the January 2026 release of Manzo’s solo piano album Time in Water, extending the recorded work into a shared, live experience. This rare solo appearance emphasizes presence over display—an invitation into a quiet, concentrated world where collaboration continues to speak through a single voice.

About Emily Manzo
Emily Manzo is a pianist, vocalist, composer, and arts organizer whom Time Out New York calls “a uniquely protean artist who makes several scenes move,” with The New York Times praising her “exceptional attention to detail.” She has performed widely across the U.S. and Europe in chamber, experimental, and rock settings; her collaborative work spans film, opera, and interdisciplinary performance, including scoring Paul Rowley’s feature The Rooms (premiered at the Pompidou Centre), commissions from Bayerischer Rundfunk and Experiments in Opera, and performances on Naama Tsabar’s sculptural instruments. A member of the Julius Eastman Memorial Dinner, she has toured with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company, Till by Turning, Arooj Aftab, and Christy & Emily, with recordings on labels including Tzadik, New Amsterdam, SHSK’H, Klangbad, Merge, and Jagjaguwar. An educator and mentor, she has developed curricula with support from the Cullman Foundation and taught with viBe SongMakers. Her newest solo album, Time in Water, featuring works written for her by Aaron Siegel and Mary Halvorson, was released January 2026 on Gold Bolus Recordings.
